The ROAD TO CERTIFICATION

The Road to Certification begins by achieving a deep and personal connection and self-to-self awareness and application of the work through studying in approved training.  This self-to-self awareness is then followed by an objective examination of Kinesensic pedagogy and practices and training in its facilitation (self-to-other). (LK Designations)

TRAINING

Examples of approved training requirements to enter the certification track are:

  • Intensives/partial Intensives

  • Approved programs (i.e. university programs or professional programs, etc.)

  • Shorter workshops that are specifically identified as leading to Certification,  and/or

  • substantial work with a Master Teacher or Certified Trainer.

  • The faculty at these workshops guide participants into practical ways of noticing, in real time, the shifts that one wants to make for oneself in alignment with one’s own goals for bodyvoice. Individual goals are important here, as is acknowledgement that one’s home language or preferred languages and cultural paradigms will be honored and joyfully included in this journey.

SELF-TO-SELF

Participants who meet the training requirements and are members of the LTRI may request to take the Candidate's Bodyvoice Assessment for Certification Candidacy. Each applicant will be assessed by Master Teachers for demonstration of the use of the work within themselves in a dynamic self-to-self capacity. Successful completion of this assessment will result in the title of Certification Candidate.

  • From this stage forward, completion depends on the candidate’s personal schedule and needs, as well as the Institute’s offerings. The candidate has a maximum of five years to complete Certification after achieving Candidacy. It is expected that candidates will make every effort to complete their training within the given time frame. Should this not occur due to unforeseen circumstances, the candidate may ask for an extension.

PRINCIPLES & WRITTEN CONNECTION

Candidates who wish to continue the certification process can now take the written assessment--an open book/open notes assessment that is untimed to allow one to delve deeper into the principles of the training and the practical experiments.

  • This step allows for the time to search, research and find responses to the material and to frame one’s own response in one’s own voice. Many prompts include options for the learner to respond in relation to their own language/needs in addition to English. This assessment is required before enrolling in the Facilitator Training course.

PEDAGODY & DEEPER UNDERSTANDING

Facilitator Training (FT) is the next step in the Certification process and will focus on deeper discussion into history and pedagogy of Kinesensics and the first forays into teaching the work to others  in ways that honor the principles discovered thus far.

  • At this time, Facilitator Training (FT) is scheduled to run at regularly scheduled times during the year, over the course of four weekends as needed. The training is led by Master Teachers and comprises 34 contact hours of synchronous and asynchronous work, observation, discussion and presentation.

SELF-TO-OTHER

The last major step towards Certification is Mentorship and Observations. The Candidate will be assigned a Mentor. The Mentor will always be a designated Master Teacher or a Certified Trainer appointed by the Master Teacher Team. The Candidate is expected to establish an ongoing dialogue with the Mentor who will provide guidance and serve as an advisor throughout the remaining Candidacy procedures required for Certification.

  • The Mentor will observe and assess the Candidate’s facilitation of the work in a self-to-other capacity. The procedures detailed in the FT Assessment and Rubric include an initial discussion with the Candidate about their needs and growth points, observations of facilitated or teaching moments per the Candidate rubric guidelines, and multiple discussions of those observations via self-awareness/reflection/application of the work. A Mentor may make recommendations for supplemental studies to improve outcomes noted on this observation. The mentorship phase of Certification Training entails up to 50 contact hours with the mentor.

The Candidate should recognize these steps take time, because it is now reliant on the coordination of dialogue and observations between two people dealing with their own schedules, life demands and the opportunities to observe or to be observed.

CERTIFICATION

The Mentor will now make their recommendations to the Master Teacher Team by giving an accounting of the process, including all rubrics and then communicate the results to the candidate. Formal notification will be sent by the Director of Certification.

  • You are now a Certified Trainer. Congratulations! You deserve it! You will be presented on our social media and at our next conference as a New Certified Trainer! Update your member page, your website, and your other affiliation pages.

    NOW KEEP IT UP!

You worked hard to get here, we invite you to stay involved or get more involved in our community. There are always opportunities in an all-volunteer organization. Present at conferences, apply to teach online for KC Studios, or lead one of our Kinesensic Connection Members Only meetings. Create and organize workshops of your own, let a Master Teacher know if you’d be interested in co-teaching an Intensive or organizing an Intensive at your site, advertise as a Certified Trainer, write about the work in forums related to your field, contribute to our newsletters, research, upcoming books, run for the board. Note that things you do during the next five years will contribute to your Sustaining Certification keeping you on the cutting edge of all the new and developing traditions and pedagogy within the field. Welcome!
